Oh, I hardly know where to begin when it comes to the
uber-dreamy Monaco! Maybe I should start with the obvious:
Monaco is BEAUTIFUL!
And I'm not talking Nice beautiful, or Cannes beautiful,
or even Paris beautiful--I'm talking fairytale beautiful, people...
Even the drive to this precious little city is like something
out of a movie--a really gorgeous movie, of course...
My sweets and I dropped our top (hee, hee)...
And took the very wind-y
(not to be confused with "windy")
oceanside two-lane road from Nice to Monaco--
a mere 12 miles as it turns out...
And while I am fairly certain that it was the
most spectacular drive of our lives, the road
that leads to Monaco is second only to actually
being there. The infamous principality is TINY,
which I suppose explains why every square
inch of it is oh-so perfectly manicured...
And there is certainly no shortage of jaw dropping
going on for non-Monegasques who aren't exactly
accustomed to seeing the likes of these around every corner
(I'm not even remotely exaggerating)...
Of course we stopped by the famous Monte Carlo Casino,
and immediately felt like we had been dropped straight onto
the set of a James Bond film...
But before we could get too comfortable in our glamorous
new roles, we were told that no pictures were allowed and
we quickly reverted to our plain ol' touristy selves outside
of the historic casino...
We did a little window shopping,
which funnily enough is not really a
"thing" in fancy-pants Monaco...
And we visited the cathedral in which Princess Grace
is buried and where her son Prince Albert recently promised
eternal love to Olympic swimmer Charlene Wittstock...
But I have to say that one of the very, very, very best moments
among many on our visit to Monaco was getting to see this guy...
Don't recognize him? Don't worry, we didn't either!
But when we noticed a crowd gathering outside of the
beautiful Hotel de Paris and an accompanying royal
motorcade, we joined the masses as stalkarrazzi with
hopes of spotting a Prince or Princess...
After a few minutes this little guy emerged,
waving to an excited crowd--never mind
that no one actually knew who he was...
Well, we googled it that evening from the
hotel, and it turns out that our little celebrity
run in was with none other than
current Secretary General of the United Nations
(and might I add, surprisingly good dancer)...
So, what do you think? Does Monaco live up to all of the hype?
Are you booking your flight as we speak/read?
Can you wait until next time when we'll
meet in glamorous CANNES?!
