A little Saturday morning shopping was the name of the game for
Day 17 of our 30-day series! Throughout our time here in San
Sebastian, we have really come to enjoy our time at the local
markets and shops. Store owners and employees alike seem to
pour their hearts into serving their customers. And at our favorite
bakery there is always a warm smile to welcome us in and someone
who knows our favorite pastries and how we like our bread sliced...
And I personally can't help but be particularly fond of any type of
baked good that is stored in a glass-paneled antique french armoire...
But the bakery isn't the only place where we can't
resist actually ENJOYING grocery shopping--
the fruit and vegetable market is just as lovely...
Tomatoes on a vine, for example, are considerably less expensive in
San Sebastian, which means that I have been making pasta sauce with
fresh tomatoes lately (instead of canned whole peeled tomatoes).
The Reading Guy says the result is infinitely more delicious--
I think I see a lot more tomato peeling in my future
And my pescetarian sweetheart loves visiting
the fresh fish market (nothing frozen here)
where he gets his very own turn to talk to the
fish experts behind the counter about cooking
tips and delicacies of the season...
Meanwhile, this vegetarian Reading Girl bypasses the
fish market altogether in search of some other essentials.
Olive oil anyone?
We are just starting to see signs of Christmas in the supermarket, too!
Have I mentioned how much I love this time of the year?
Hope you enjoyed grocery shopping San Sebastian style!
Thanks so much for stopping in and we'll see you soon for Day 18!
