Just over two years ago, I stumbled upon a little known
website filled with pictures, plans and loads of much
needed encouragement. Since then my life has changed
in so many wonderful ways, thanks in no small part
to a certain generous lady who so kindly shares her
genius with the world, all the way from remote Alaska!
Ana White and her anawhite.com (then knockoffwood.com)
gave this emerging carpenter the skills, the building plans,
and the confidence to follow her heart...
At the time, I was a new attorney, a newlywed, and a recent
convert to staying-at-home--needless to say, I had become
a little restless. Until one day, I announced that I was going to
learn how to build furniture and that I was going to do so
with the help of a blog written by an awesome
stay-at-home carpenter herself...
I built my very first piece of furniture within a few
days of "meeting" Ana White, and began writing my
blog soon after. BUT TODAY, I have the most incredible
news to share with you! Ana is sure to become even more
of a superstar when her first book The Handbuilt Home
is released on October 9th of this year...
And I feel so fortunate to have been able to contribute
to this incredible book that is filled with easy
and affordable furniture that YOU, yes YOU can build!
You can even spot our project right there on the cover...
A custom built, hand stained kitchen island!!!
We ditched our builder grade island in the hope of replacing
it with something as beautiful as it would be practical!
And this little island has been surpassing our expectations ever since...
and functional addition to our home...
It really has become the centerpiece of our kitchen.
And I think it could be in yours, too! Ana's new book has
the building plans for this island and countless other
gorgeous pieces to help make your house a home...
So, I hope you'll take the plunge, get your hands on a copy of
The Handbuilt Home
and start BUILDING YOUR DREAMS--
I sure have been building mine...
