Our brand spanking new guest room!
Complete with ANTIQUE HEADBOARD...
Our very dear DIY DESK...
Even a twist on traditional bedside tables:
One bookcase...
One vanity...
Not to mention our new cutsie vanity bench
(please visit here for the wonderful and simple tutorial)...
Both bedside tables were made with the guidance of our "dear friend," Ana and
everything was handmade in the comfort of our own garage--which incidentally is begging for a makeover itself...
Oh! And how about our sparkly new (ahem--old/made over)
CHANDY'...
~~Ahh~~ and not to leave out the new crisp, white linens...
Oh! And a whole lot of heart and soul...
This tiny little room has managed to surpass even the GREY-T'est of our expectations...
With its soothing palette...
Inviting disposition...
And subtle sweetness...
But it wasn't always so--this is how our home's primary guest room started out...
The epitome of a blank slate--that is of course if you consider the green color found only in a frozen margarita a "blank slate"...
Now, I know what you are thinking, but TRUST ME, the photos fail to tell the whole tragic truth...
The soft green was actually far more fluorescent than the cute little paint swatch implied (silly me, first lesson in paint color selection). It was bad, people, Margaritaville bad...
As soon as I had convinced the Reading Guy that I absolutely must gathered the nerve to repaint the already repainted guest room, the green was GONE--and the palest of grey was PERFECTLY in its place...
~~Ahhh~~ See? Much better...
Here you can see just how GREEN the walls are were against the white ceiling!
Oh and not to worry (as you may have already noticed here), that lovely ceiling fan was OUT before the Reading Guy could protest too much. What is it with men and their undying attachment to ceiling fans, right?
So, grey started out as the color de jour, and it quickly became my obsession the center of my palette preferences throughout the remainder of this room makeover...
Grey on the walls...
And if I might offer an indication of just how pale the grey is: my father and brother both could swear that it is white, heh heh...
Grey-ish headboard...
Hints of grey on the Reading Guy's Desk...
And on the nightstands, too...
Even the chandy' has a grey tinge to it...
With so much monochromatism, much contrasting white
(well as much as white can contrast with the palest of grey-s)
was in order!!!
And how about some metallics too...
Even some pink made its way in...
The french doors that lead to the balcony were also treated to their own new white linen dressings--but the balcony can still use a little sprucing up!
Maybe that makeover can be explored in a future post...
Countless books are held in place by antique candleholders...
And these rustic glass jars--dare I assume they were once some sort of apothecary set--are perfect for welcoming guests with the smallest and simplest of blooms--like these sweet peonies and tiny roses...
Meanwhile the tiny vanity offers even more accessorizing potential...
When all was said and done, we had ourselves a guest room that the entire family is ALTOGETHER inclined to spend much more time in...
But of course we're still hoping to make a few dear guests feel entirely at home...
And maybe even exceed the GREY-test of THEIR expectations...
Thanks so much for visiting!
