A rainy day is undoubtedly my favorite type of day! So often, I hear people complaining of all the inconveniences that come along with the rain. Flooded streets, slippery sidewalks and, of course, frizzy hair :P
But rainy days always remind me of my grandmother and how much she enjoys the smell of rain drenched soil because it reminds her of my late grandfather. As if that wasn't enough to bring a smile to face, the rare occasion of a rainy day in our small town is always a positive for our much neglected lawn, not to mention my struggling herb garden. And this particular rainy day has found me in the perfect mood to share some pictures of my latest projects.
The month of June marked my very first substantial experience with carpentry...that's right, CARPENTRY. A lawyer by trade, but a homebody at heart! I decided to start with a very simple console table to place behind our sectional sofa and anchor the den. Of course I was never able to find one that would accommodate BOTH my champagne taste AND beer budget (tee hee). So, I borrowed some inspiration from here (ouch, check out that price tag) to avoid having to borrow from a bank to pay for my new table, and I custom built it myself!
I am quite certain that I spent no more than $30 and my husband and I REALLY love the result...which is priceless! As far as the labor is concerned, most ladies probably spend more time (and sweat) on a daily visit to the gym than I did in the few hours that it took me to build the table.
Wood, screws, wood filler, wood stain, and a few tools, and voila... a truly one of a kind piece!
